Here it is, the big update so many of us have been waiting for, Travellers Rest is an Indie game that has been out for some time on Early Access on Steam. I have been playing this game since I got the Steam Deck, nearly two years now and it has changed a lot but this update made it go from Early Access to nearly there.
We have had little updates over the years, they added farming and fishing which are two of the biggest ‘cosy games’ tropes but this is the biggest since we got the new recipes.
So, what have they added, they added a story, when you make a new save (which I recommend doing), they even have a voice over now. I really enjoyed it, explained more of what you are doing at this empty Traven. There is also a new tutorial and while it was a little too long for someone who already played the game, I have seen newcomers have really enjoyed it, it goes through all the basics of the game, farming, how to make food and beer, how to sleep, how to serve and clean your Tavern. Once done you’re free to do what you want.
The best part of this update is the city which just screams D&D to me. It’s old fantasy with a market place, so many different shops and people to chat with, I have a feeling there will be more in the future. I loved this city, makes the game feel so much more alive, some items won’t be there to buy so it makes you visit every day to see what there is.
There have been some other changes, to the beer making, less options for you, this has been talked about on Reddit by the creator of this game who explained it’s something they had to do, maybe we will see it again soon. There have been some negatives around this update which I understand but this game is what I want, working the land to make food for my Tavern. Food has gotten harder to get but this is meant to give you some challenges, if everything just got handed to you then it gets boring, my last save I had everything, left like there wasn’t any point, any challenge.
Anyway this update has been amazing and if working in a Traven sounds like your kind of Indie game then I highly recommend you check this game out.
